The next Star Trek movie is not Star Wars: The Last Jedi, according to a new report.
According to a report from Deadline, director J.J. Abrams is not planning on making the next film based on the popular series, which first debuted in 1979 and lasted a whopping 16 seasons.
The next Star Fleet, which Abrams plans to direct and executive produce, is set to be set during the early 1960s.
The film will be Abrams’ first foray into the Star Trek universe, and the first of several Abrams projects that have yet to be announced.
It is likely that he will follow in the footsteps of Abrams’ previous two films, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond, which were all based on Star Trek novels.
Star Trek Into Depth, which is based on Abrams’ 2003 novel, will be the last of the current series to feature Abrams’ characters.
