The NFL announced on Wednesday that it will install a memorial ceramic tile in the end zone of the stadium next season, the first time the league has done so since the stadium opened in 1998.
The tiles are intended to honor players who died in combat, and memorialize the lives lost in war.
The memorial tiles will replace the existing concrete-block sections that were removed when the new stadium was completed.
The memorial tiles were first installed in the San Francisco 49ers’ stadium in 2012 and were approved by the NFL in November.
The team will replace them at the Chicago Bears’ stadium.
The NFL says it will announce more details on the project in the coming weeks.
